End of 2010 season report

Final tallies for this year.

Gourd A: 3 eggs layed - 2 young hatched and fledged
Gourd B: 4 eggs - all 4 fledged
Gourd C: 6 eggs - 6 hatched, 5 fledged, 1 died (possibly from heat/dry)
Gourd D: 6 eggs - 6 hatched/fledged
Gourd E: 4 eggs - 4 young hatched/fledged
Gourd F: 6 eggs - all 6 hatched/fledged
Gourd G: 4 eggs - all 4 fledged
Gourd H: No activity
Gourd I: 6 eggs - all 6 fledged
Gourd J: 7 eggs - none hatched
Gourd K: 5 eggs - all 5 hatched/fledged
Gourd L: 5 eggs - 4 hatched, 2 fledglings died, one egg left.

Total eggs: 56
Total hatched: 47
Total fledged: 44

Season send-off

The martins have pretty much finished up their activities at the colony this season. Today there were 2 circling around, but not landing on the housing. The adult male sang quite a bit - maybe he was saying thanks and so long until next season...

Nest Check - surprise

Today's nest check revealed 36 eggs across 7 gourds and *surprise* 4 eggs in Gourd G - we must have missed those eggs in the last check.

I: 6 eggs
J: 1 eggs
K: 5 eggs
L: 5 eggs

Nests under construction

10 out of 12 gourds have nesting material per our recent (3 Apr) nest check. Only Gourds H and L remain inactive. Of note, one of the gourds (B) has wet sand/pond grass - a repeat unusual action from last year. Could be the same bird at work...

Camera(s) coming online

We've got the first camera (Colony-Cam) up and running now. A few wiring repairs are needed before we get the Gourd Cam running again. Hopefully the Site Cam is not too far behind either.

So far around 6 martins are hanging out here.
